For day 14 of #jamuary2023, I had grandiose plans that were not to be. But still, there was jamming! And a new track with video!

So, today I planned to use all of the Model Electronics synths in the jam, and I wanted to loop all three simultaneously using a send from the mixer to combine them and send them all to the G3n. There, I’d do a loop and apply the effects. I’d really wanted to use my Behringer Flow 8 digital mixer/interface as more than just the audio interface today. The looper, however, got really overwhelmed really quickly, and it sounded like … crap.

I still used the mixer, though. Just not the way I’d intended. Turns out, the effects in the Flow 8, though limited, are pretty nice. The little Flow 8 is a really nice little mixer that can also be a multi-channel audio interface, and it works really well. I didn’t use it that way, though. I just used it as a mixer to combine the audio and send some of it to the G3n, and then send the final mix into Ableton Live as a stereo mix. I think that’s more in the spirit of the live jam the doing a full-on multi-track recording.

More disturbing today is that the little CraftSynth has developed a nasty USB whine. Fortunately, it can run on batteries, but ultimately, that’s not ideal. I think that the USB connector has a cracked solder joint, so it looks like tomorrow I’ll be taking it apart and resoldering that to the circuit board. If that turns out to not be the problem, I’ll have to add a proper power connector.

So, what’s the verdict on the Modal Synths? Well, I do wish that I’d held out an bought a Cobalt 8. But, these guys are nice and compact, and they do sound pretty darned good. So … I’ll probably keep them unless someone makes me an offer I can’t refuse.

I hope you’re enjoying the music, and I also hope you’re enjoying the variety of music being made by others. Here, again, are the links to #jamuary2023 content on YouTube, Instagram, and Facebook:
