It’s Jamuary 10, and today I’m continuing the musical journey with an ambient jam using the Model Electronics Skulpt SE, Zoom G3n, and Novation Music Launchpad Pro Mk3.
The Skulpt SE is a virtual analog desktop synth module with two morphable oscillators, a couple of envelopes and LFOs, a multimode filter, an impressive modulation matrix, distortion and delay effects, an arpeggiator/sequencer, patch storage and four-note polyphony. You know, all the stuff you’d expect to find on a virtual analog synth. And, it sounds decent and comes at an excellent price. But, for some reason, using the Skulpt SE is not quite as much fun for me as the little CraftSynth 2.0. And I’m not sure why this is.
The Skulpt does use the same excellent app as all of the Modal Electronics synths, and that makes navigating the quirky control panel a bit more manageable. And it does sound pretty, I suppose. But really, meh. We’ll see how tomorrow and the rest of the week goes — Thursday and Friday will feature the Cobalt 5S. But as of now, I think this one’s still going to be for sale.
I hope you’re enjoying the music, and I also hope you’re enjoying the variety of music being made by others. Here, again, are the links to #jamuary2023 content on YouTube, Instagram, and Facebook:
