2 GAIAs — Some Thoughts on Roland’s New GAIA 2 Synth

I have, in the past, mentioned the Roland GAIA synthesizer, and have said that it could well be a “perfect” synth. Indeed, during its 13 years of production, it was a preferred instrument for teaching about synthesis and sound design in schools and universities everywhere. So, I was naturally quite interested when Roland announced the GAIA 2.

Takeaways From #jamuary2023

For those who didn’t notice, I embarked upon a challenge in January to produce a music jam each day. In other words, 31 pieces of new music in 31 days. They didn’t have to be long. They didn’t have to be complete. They didn’t even have to be good. That wasn’t the point. The point was to make time every day to make music.

#JAMUARY2023-14

For day 14 of #jamuary2023, I had grandiose plans that were not to be. But still, there was jamming! And a new track with video!

#JAMUARY2023-13

It’s Friday! The 13th day of #jamuary2023! Today’s jam again features the Modal Electronics Cobalt 5S virtual analog synthesizer and, as always, the Zoom G3n multi-effects pedal.

#JAMUARY2023-12

Today is the twelfth day of #jamuary2023, and today I’m playing the Modal Electronics Cobalt5s, a cut-down version of their Cobalt8 virtual analog synthesizer.

#JAMUARY2023-11

Music often reflects the mood of the creator, and my jam for the eleventh day of Jamuray2023 certainly illustrates that. I’m in a dark place today and I don’t feel particularly well, and it certainly came out in the music.

#JAMUARY2023-10

It’s Jamuary 10, and today I’m continuing the musical journey with an ambient jam using the Model Electronics Skulpt SE, Zoom G3n, and Novation Music Launchpad Pro Mk3.

#JAMUARY2023-9

It’s the nineth day of Jamuary2023! Today, we are again exploring the Model Electronics Craftsynth 2.0, the Novation Lauchpad Pro mk3, the Zoom G3n, and a little bit of Ableton Live. Please enjoy the video.

What Sorcery is This?

A couple of weeks back, I put up a fairly lengthy post about my idea of the perfect synthesizer … You may have inferred from my previous post that I was pretty smitten by the Modal Electronics Cobalt8 series. And who wouldn’t be?
