It’s Sunday, the 29th day of #jamuary2023 and today I’m delivering on threats from earlier in the month: It’s granular synthesis day here in The Disaster Room, and I’m doing an entire track with the 1010Music NanoBox LemonDrop….

I’ve had the LemonDrop for a while now, but like so many other things, I’ve not done a lot with it. It caught my eye and excited me. And then, life got in the way, and I’ve had other things to deal with, and the LemonDrop has been basically sitting on a table ever since. But, the patch I created with it back in August of last year actually features in today’s jam as part of the background. In retrospect, I’d like to have recorded it an octave higher, but it was the first thing to go into the looper and so it sits deep and low in the mix. I like the patch, though, so I’m sure I’ll use it again sometime.

The LemonDrop is a quirkly little thing, to be sure, but is still a really useable little tiny synth, though I do have a couple of “I wishes” about it. Like, “I wish it could send audio in and out over USB,” and, “I wish it could receive MIDI over USB.” But, it is what it is. It is surprisingly powerful. The tiny touch screen is surprising usable. The sound is surprisingly good. Not surprisingly, I do still want to get its little companions, the Fireball and the Razmataz some day….

I hope you’re enjoying the music, and I also hope you’re enjoying the variety of music being made by others. Here, again, are the links to #jamuary2023 content on YouTube, Instagram, and Facebook:
