I started out with the idea to do a simple, space-ambient piece using one patch in a single “real-time” pass using the Korg Wavestate. That’s not what actually happened. Such is the way of a jam, I suppose.
From a technical perspective, I did use a single patch from the Wavestate. And I almost got away with a single pass, but the 37-note keybed felt a little cramped. I also wanted to incorporate the ice delay and particle reverb from the Zoom G3n today, and that got a little wonky and muddy trying to cope with the bassy drone and the melodic parts at the same time. So, in the end, I tracked the drone into the Boss RC-3 and then bounced that to Ableton, adding some light effects from the G3n while I recorded it onto a single stereo track. I then came back and recorded the lead melodic parts on one stereo track in Live, and captured the effects to another stereo track.
Each track — drone, lead, and effects — then got a bit of a gain increase before passing through separate instances of Ozone 9 for eq and stereo imaging.
Musically, the whole thing is based on a droning, very slowly arpeggiating Dmb6 chord with some occasional augmentation and subtle movement, with a mostly compatible melody over it.
I hope you’re enjoying the music, and I also hope you’re enjoying the variety of music being made by others. Here, again, are the links to #jamuary2023 content on YouTube, Instagram, and Facebook:
