Korg has let a big cat out of the bag today — rackmount and “native” software versions of the multi/poly! While not entirely unexpected, it seems a lot of people have been caught off guard by how quickly these versions came to market, given the length of time it took for Korg to come out with these versions of the previous R&D synth series.
While I’m personally quite happy with the keyboard version of the multi/poly I already own, many people were waiting to buy the hardware until the rackmountable version came out. It’s the software version that excites me. Having the flexibility to work either directly with the hardware, or with a software version while traveling, is a great capability.
The screen shots Korg has shared of the software look great — Korg R&D have really done a great job with the software for all of the R&D series synths. Everything is logically laid out and, as with the wavestate and modwave native software, it makes the operation of the instrument readilty apparent.
I’ve been doing streams on YouTube about the multi/poly using the currently available free editor/librarian and for the foreseeable future, that’s how I intend to continue making multi/poly hardware videos. But, I’ll definitely be adding the native software version to my arsenal as well.
While the software doesn’t seem to be available/accessible just yet (as of January 16, 2025 at 11:30AM EST), the new rackmount version of the hardware is available for pre-order.
Here are a couple of videos that were released today by Ian Dixon that include a great interview with Dan Phillips of Korg R&D, and a nice runthrough of the multi/poly native software (video was redacted by creator).
And, of course, I’ve had a multi/poly playlist available for some time now:
